After they spend most of their time garnering your trust, the sales, finance and insurance people then try to create a false sense of urgency. They make you feel that you must make a decision immediately. You never deal with the same people and at each step you receive a fresh new salesperson seeking after another type of commission.
You may have received copies of the paperwork that are different than what you signed. Sometimes those documents are changed after the sale but before the dealership sells that contract up the line.
Often a dealership won't give you enough time to read the documents or even mislead you about what the document say. Often they don't even know themselves what the very serious legal terms means. In fact, generally, the people signing and reviewing the paperwork are no more familiar with their contents than you are. When push comes to shove, they will rely on the documents they wrote, on terms that favor them.
Then they may try to sell you an extended warranty that provides little to no actual coverage, leaving you unprotected. This is addition to all the other post sale add-on products that reap huge commissions for sales people but provide little value to you.
Even in the best case, these documents often contain inflated document fees, advertising fees, surcharges, inspection fees, trade-in acceptance fees, or any other charge conceived to deprive you of your hard-earned money without giving you back anything in exchange.
Dealerships sometimes fail to honor the terms of the warranty, leaving you with defective products and no recourse for repairs or replacements.
Sometimes they just deny your valid warranty claims, forcing you to pay out-of-pocket for repairs or replacements.
The warranties are almost always difficult to understand or contain deceptive clauses.
